Introducing our new salad cheese...Shanklish

It’s time to try our Shanklish salad cheese

We are excited to introduce you to our new Yorkshire Dama Cheese salad cheese – Shanklish! Deliciously flavourful and cheesy on the eye… Make Shanklish your salad’s new best friend.


What is Shanklish cheese?


We thought you’d never ask.

Shanklish is a yoghurt-based cheese, commonly used in Levantine cuisine and originating from Eastern Mediterranean and Syria. It is similar in texture to feta cheese yet comes as cheese balls coated with herbs or spices. The combination of lively, sharp flavours creates a flavour profile that will make you crave the beautiful taste of Shanklish.


How is Shanklish cheese made?


The process of making Shanklish salad cheese starts with us turning local Yorkshire milk into yoghurt. We then strain the yoghurt until it becomes dry before mixing it with herbs and spices and shaping the cheese into balls. The Shanklish cheese balls are then left to age to develop acidity.

Once the cheese balls have matured, we coat them with thyme or paprika and vacuum-pack them. And just like that our Yorkshire Dama Cheese Shanklish cheese balls are ready to enjoy!


What is Shanklish cheese best served with?


Shanklish is considered a salad cheese and hence is the perfect buddy for a healthy salad. Traditionally, Shanklish is eaten mixed with diced tomatoes, onions, parsley and olive oil. It also makes for a delicious breakfast when crushed in a pita with cucumbers, mint and olive oil.

Shanklish can also be served as a flavourful companion to crackers or even added on top of pizza for a unique taste.

A Simple Salad with Shanklish cheese



Yorkshire Dama Shanklish cheese ball

1 green bell pepper

1 red onion

2 tomatoes

1 tbsp flat-leaf parsley

3 tbsp olive oil

The juice of half a lemon



1.   Chop the tomatoes, pepper and onion. Mix together in a salad bowl.

2.   Mix the olive oil with the juice of half a lemon.

3.   Crush the Shanklish cheese ball with a fork and spread it on top of the tomato, onion and pepper mixture.

4.  Sprinkle the seasoning on top of the salad, gently toss together and add the finely chopped parsley.
